Capabilities

CNC Milling

Multi-axis CNC milling for complex profiles, stepped blanks, pockets, and precision faces on tool steel, alloy steel, and mould steel. Suitable for die blocks, mould inserts, jig components, and structural blanks.

Max workpiece: enquire for current machine envelope. Typical tolerance: ±0.05 mm general, ±0.01 mm on request for critical dimensions. Surface finish: Ra 0.8–3.2 µm typical.

Surface Grinding

Precision surface grinding for flatness, parallelism, squareness, and surface finish requirements. Essential for mould steel plates, die blocks, and any component requiring flat reference surfaces to tight tolerances.

Typical flatness: 0.01–0.05 mm per 300 mm. Typical parallelism: 0.01–0.02 mm. Surface finish: Ra 0.2–0.8 µm standard. Tight finishes to Ra 0.05 µm available.

Material Range

All 14 steel grades stocked by PSS are available for machining, including hardened and pre-hardened steels. Tool steel in the annealed condition and pre-hardened mould steel (2311 at ~30 HRC, 2738 at ~33 HRC, TGP80 at ~40 HRC) are routinely processed.

Hardness capability: annealed grades (≤230 HB) and pre-hardened grades (up to ~43 HRC). Fully hardened tool steel (>55 HRC) is handled by grinding only.

Dimensional Inspection

All machined components are dimensionally verified against the supplied drawing or specification before dispatch. We provide a dimensional check report on request.

Measurement tools: digital calipers, micrometer, height gauge, surface plate. CMM available for critical components by arrangement.

Our Equipment

CNC Vertical Machining Centre

Multi-axis vertical CNC for milling, drilling, and boring. Suitable for die blocks, mould plates, and complex blank profiles in tool and alloy steel.

Surface Grinding Machine

Precision reciprocating surface grinder with magnetic chuck. Used for flat grinding of mould plates, die blanks, and precision reference surfaces.

Dimensional Measuring Equipment

Digital height gauge, precision squares, dial test indicators, and digital calipers for in-process and final dimensional verification.

Steel Grades We Process

Our processing services cover all 14 special steel grades in our catalog — from soft structural steel through to hardened tool steel. No need to source material and processing from different suppliers.

CNC machining is available on all 14 special steel grades stocked by PT. Precision Special Steel. This includes annealed tool steel (SKD11, SKD61, SKS3), pre-hardened mould steel (2311, 2738, TGP80), alloy engineering steel (SCM440, 4140QT, 4340QT), and standard carbon steel (S45C, S50C, SS400). Tiangong exclusive grades (TGX6, TGE23, TGP80) are equally supported. For fully hardened tool steel (>55 HRC), surface grinding is available.

How It Works

1

Submit Drawing or Specification

Send your drawing (DXF, PDF, or dimension sketch) or written dimension specification by WhatsApp or email. Include: steel grade required, quantity, dimensional tolerances, surface finish requirements, and any special notes.

2

Review & Quotation

Our team reviews the drawing, confirms material availability, and provides a quotation covering material and machining cost. Typical response: same day for standard requests.

3

Programming & Setup

CNC programmes are prepared or retrieved from our library (for repeat orders). Workholding and tooling are selected and set up on the appropriate machine.

4

Machining

Parts are machined per the confirmed drawing. In-process dimensional checks are performed at key stages to confirm we are on tolerance before completing the operation.

5

Inspection & Dispatch

Final dimensional inspection is performed. A check report is produced and provided with the delivery. Parts are protected, labelled, and dispatched to you.

Turnaround

Standard: 2–5 business days depending on complexity and quantity. Simple milled blanks or ground plates: 1–2 days. Complex die blocks or tightly toleranced parts: 3–5 days. Rush service by arrangement.

Minimum Order

No formal minimum. Single piece enquiries are accepted. Very small jobs may incur a minimum set-up charge — enquire for current rates.

Typical Applications

Die steel blocks machined to near-net shape before hardening
Pre-hardened mould steel plates ground to flatness
Round bar turned to precision blanks for punch and die stock
Jig and fixture body machining in alloy steel
Tool holders and arbors machined from SCM440 bar
Plate preparation: squaring, facing, and parallelism grinding
Custom blanks for customers without in-house machining
Repeat production of standard toolroom blanks

Service FAQ

What tolerances can you hold in milling?
General dimensional tolerance: ±0.05 mm. For critical dimensions such as locating features or mating faces, we can target ±0.01–0.02 mm. Please specify your required tolerances on the drawing or in your enquiry.
Can you surface grind pre-hardened mould steel like 2311 or TGP80?
Yes. Pre-hardened grades up to approximately 43 HRC (such as TGP80 at 38–42 HRC) are routinely surface ground in our facility. Surface finish to Ra 0.2 µm is achievable, which is suitable as a starting point for manual polishing.
Do I need to supply a drawing?
A drawing is preferred for complex work. For simple shapes (flat blanks, squared plates), a dimension list with tolerances is sufficient. If you do not have a drawing, our team can assist in interpreting a sketch or written description.
What is the typical lead time for CNC machining?
Simple operations (surface grinding of a plate, milling a face): 1–2 business days. Standard die block or mould insert: 2–3 days. Complex multi-feature machining: 3–5 days. Rush arrangements are possible — contact us.
Can you machine steel I supply, not from your stock?
Yes, we can machine customer-supplied steel on a job basis. Please contact us in advance to confirm compatibility with our equipment. Note that material traceability for customer-supplied material remains the customer's responsibility.
Do you offer both cutting and machining as a combined service?
Yes. We commonly cut stock material to approximate size and then machine it to final dimensions in a single order. This combined service often provides the fastest and most cost-effective path from raw stock to finished blank.
